MAPLEWOOD, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey school board voted Monday to remove Thomas Jefferson's name from an elementary school.

CBS 2 reports The South-Orange Maplewood School Board voted unanimously to change the name of Jefferson Elementary School in Maplewood, New Jersey.

The resolution stated the board has decided to "ensure and model an inclusive, welcoming and respectful learning environment" by removing the name "of an enslaver committed to upholding the institution of slavery."

The district will now work to find a new name for the school by June.
