JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey state senator was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on Thursday after she sideswiped two parked cars near her home, according to a report.
State Sen. Sandra Cunningham was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, NJ.com reported. The results of a blood alcohol test she took are pending, according to the outlet.
Cunningham told police she thought she had accidentally turned into a snowbank as she attempted to make a turn, the outlet reported.
In an interview with the outlet, former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey called the incident "a difficult circumstance and somewhat traumatizing."
"My sense is that it was a reaction to medication and not in any way connected with alcohol," he said, according to the outlet.
Cunningham pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol back in 2006, the outlet reported.
Her attorney information wasn't immediately available Friday.
