NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey teacher who was critically injured last week when a car pinned her to the wall of a district high school has died, prosecutors announced Monday.

Laura Cuevas, 66, was outside of Arts High School in Newark on Wednesday, Oct. 23, when two cars crashed outside the school located at 550 Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The collision caused one vehicle to lose control and struck Cuevas, pinning her to an exterior wall of the school. She was taken to University Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday night, despite the efforts of hospital staff to save her.

Another teacher who was struck, and the two drivers of the vehicles, suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries. They were all treated at University Hospital.

Cuevas was an art teacher at Newark Public Schools’ East Ward Elementary, according to the school directory.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigation Bureau is continuing to investigate.
