FORT LEE, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A woman was charged after a 12-year-old girl was found unresponsive in a New Jersey home on Saturday afternoon and died in a suspected overdose.

Frances Caso, 48, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of controlled dangerous substances and possession of drug paraphernalia, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday.

At 3:34 p.m. on Saturday, officers with the Fort Lee Police Department found an unresponsive young girl in a private residence on Maple Street.

She was rushed by EMS to Hackensack University Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, officials said.

The prosecutor’s office was alerted when “indicators of a possible drug overdose” were noted at the scene.

Multiple drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in the home during a court-authorized search, and the investigation found that Caso and three other juveniles were in the home at the time of the girl’s suspected overdose.

Caso was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack.
The investigation into the fatal dose of narcotics the girl took is ongoing, prosecutors said.
