NEWARK (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey's first COVID vaccines will be administered at a Newark hospital on Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy said.

The governor tweeted Sunday that the first doses will be given at University Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Murphy said he will be there, along with Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli, University Hospital President Dr. Shereef Elnahal and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Dean Dr. Robert Johnson.

The first 76,000 doses will go to health care workers and long-term care facility residents and staff, Murphy said.

New Jersey reported over 6,000 new COVID cases and 71 more deaths on Saturday. Statewide hospitalizations were at 3,543, with 690 patients in intensive care and 438 on ventilators.
