LISTEN: Obama recalls breaking a friend's nose after being called a racial slur
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Former President Barack Obama revealed during a podcast with Bruce Springsteen that he broke a classmate's nose after he was called a racial slur.
During a conversation on the "Renegades: Born in the USA" podcast, Obama and Springsteen were having a conversation about the incident.
According to Obama, the child was a friend he played basketball with. One time the two got into a fight and his friend called him a racial slur.
"I remember, I popped him in the face and broke his nose," the former president said.
Obama said his friend might not have even known what the word meant but that he said it intending to be hurtful.
When his friend asked him why he did that, Obama responded: "don't ever call me something like that."
The first two episodes of an 8-part podcast between President Barack Obama and Bruce Springsteen were launched on Tuesday although the conversations were taped at Springsteen's home between July and December of 2020.
