
NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — An off-duty New Jersey police officer was carjacked while in Newark early Saturday morning, Newark Police said.
The victim, an officer with the East Orange Police Department, was rear-ended as part of a carjacking scheme just after 4:30 a.m. near Broadway and 2nd Avenue.
As soon as he got out of his vehicle to assess the damage, the officer was approached by three masked, armed men who stole his keys and other belongings.
The robbers fled the scene in the victim’s car. A description of the men has not yet been provided.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
