OH, DEER! Police rescue fawn stuck in Long Island canal

EAST ISLIP, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Officers with the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau came to the rescue of a young fawn who was holding on for deer life after getting caught in a Long Island canal on Saturday morning.

Officers Jack Jantzen and John Dreyer responded to a 911 call regarding a deer caught in a canal at The Moorings, a private community in East Islip, at about 9:10 a.m.

Upon arrival, they saw the fawn swimming through the water, trapped.

The fawn was removed from the water and sustained no injuries.

The officers were able to secure a boat line around the deer and lead it to a floating jet ski platform while another responder, officer Robert Jenkins, operated the boat.

“The deer was pulled safely from the water and carried to land without injury,” Suffolk police wrote on social media. “Great job officers.”
