NEOCONSET (1010 WINS) — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced its intention to investigate the Long Island contractor in charge of renovating the boat storage yard where a building collapsed injuring six workers on Thursday.

The facade of the building collapsed around 1:30 p.m. at the Great Oak Marina as Sit Back and Relax Ground Maintenance employees worked to convert the lot to a car dealership.

“OSHA will determine whether or not there were any violations of workplace safety standards in connection with this incident,” the agency told Newsday in a statement.

The inspection will be carried out over the course of the next six months.

Smithtown Building Department officials inspected the site Friday morning.

The preliminary investigation found that workers were taking blocks out of the wall when it collapsed. The facade hit several workers and knocked over scissor lifts that were holding others.
