NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Former Long Island Republican Rep. Peter King said that he had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his stomach wall.
The 79-year-old told Newsday that he was in "virtually no pain" after the surgery on Monday at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park.
King, who spent 14 terms in the House before deciding not to run for reelection in 2019, said doctors were confident he would not require radiation or chemotherapy.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder and Northwell Health CEO Michael Dowling are among those who have visited King in the hospital.
"Looking forward to being home but no need to rush things!" King said in a Facebook post Thursday,
