OWEGO, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A snowplow covered an Upstate driver's car in nearly 4 feet of snow on Thursday, trapping him for over 10 hours before he was rescued by a state trooper, police said.

Police had received 911 calls that a driver ran off the road in Owego during Thursday's snowstorm and needed assistance—but when they went to look for him he couldn't be found.

A state police trooper drove to the area of State Route 17C where the man was said to be but also couldn't locate him, police said.

The trooper began digging at a row of mailboxes to try to figure out the address he was at. As he was digging, he hit the windshield of the man's car.

Inside the car was 58-year-old Kevin Kresen, who had been stranded in the vehicle for more than 10 hours after a plow truck covered his vehicle in nearly 4 feet of snow.

There wasn't any heat in the vehicle due to a broken serpentine belt, police said.

Kresen was suffering from hypothermia and frostbite and was taken to Lourdes Hospital for treatment.

"The actions of Sergeant Jason Cawley no doubt saved the driver's life," state police said of the trooper. "Job well done."

Owego is west of Binghamton, a city that got 41 inches of snow from Thursday's storm.
