EAST ISLIP, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – Now that’s a twist! After years of filling city streets with its iconic truck jingle, Mister Softee opened its first-ever ice cream shop this month on Long Island.

The brick-and-mortar location opened at 195 Carleton Ave. in East Islip, just in time for spring. It serves dozens of hard ice cream flavors, as well as soft serve like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and pistachio.

Around 300 Mister Softee trucks roll through the streets of New York City during the warmer months, signaling their approach with that familiar jingle.

But if New Yorkers can't wait for Mister Softee to hit their block, they can drive about an hour to East Islip, or take the LIRR to stations at Islip or Great River.

Mister Softee also has a few other locations in the area, including a stand at the boardwalk in Wildwood.
