NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A dog was found abandoned and tied to a pole in New Jersey on Thursday morning, according to the Cranford Police Department.
Police are now looking for the owner who abandoned the pit bull mix left on Lexington Avenue near Unami Park in Linden.
A photo of the dog, Zeus, was shared on the Cranford Police Department’s Facebook page with a cardboard sign that read, “Not rabid; no biting. Need a home.”
Zeus was found tied on a leash to a handicapped sign at around 6 a.m. by a good Samaritan, Capt. Matthew Nazzaro told NJ.com.
An investigation is ongoing.
“Typically we’ll have dogs that are lost and we’ll post them on social media. An owner will come forward and claim them,” he said. “In this case, it appears the dog was deliberately abandoned.”
The owner could face charges of animal cruelty, according to Nazzaro.
Zeus was taken to a local shelter, according to cops.
“We urge people that if they are thinking, if they are overwhelmed that they can’t own a dog any longer, to surrender the dog through one of many other, healthy options and safe options,” Nazzaro said.
Police are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Cranford Police Department at 908-272-2222 and ask for Detective Lt. Durkin, the post said. Anonymous tips are welcomed on the CPD app or via NIXLE.
