NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- When a newly-elected congresswoman from Missouri took to Twitter with concerns about putting a budget-friendly wardrobe of business clothes together, her soon-to-be colleague from New York jumped in to offer help.
"The reality of being a regular person going to Congress is that it's really expensive to get the business clothes I need for the Hill," Democratic Representative-elect Cori Bush, who last week became the first Black woman elected to Congress in Missouri, tweeted Tuesday evening. "So I'm going thrift shopping tomorrow."
An hour later, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who recently graced the cover of "Vanity Fair" and previously appeared in "Vogue," shared some tips with Bush.
"Thrifting, renting, and patience as you get your closet together sis. Capsule wardrobe will be your best friend," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in her own tweet. "Good news is that all these practices are very sustainable and good for the planet!"
"You can also thrift and buy second hand online, which helped me get higher quality, longer-lasting things that would normally be out of budget," she added.
Both politicians were featured in the 2019 Netflix documentary "Knock Down the House," which focused on their 2018 primary campaigns. (Bush lost to incumbent Lacy Clay that year before defeating him this past summer.)
Bush quickly responded to the Ocasio-Cortez' suggestions. "Yes for the ideas!!!!!! Thanks sis!" she wrote.
"We'll do a shopping day together," Ocasio-Cortez replied. "I got you!!"
