NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- President-elect Joe Biden has nominated former New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg to be his Deputy Secretary of Transportation, he said Monday.
Trottenberg, who was the DOT’s longest-serving commissioner, stepped down in November after accept a voluntary role advising Biden’s transition team on transportation-related issues.
In a press release on Monday, Biden said he planned to appoint Trottenberg to a permanent administration post.
“Polly Trottenberg is a nationally recognized transportation leader with federal, state and city experience,” the release said.
In her own statement posted on Twitter, Trottenberg said the U.S. “needs a safe, equitable and environmentally sustainable transportation system that creates jobs and supports economic recovery.”
“Looking forward to working alongside @PeteButtigieg and the USDOT team to build back better,” she wrote.
Biden in December said he would nominate Buttigieg, a former Democratic presidential candidate, to be the Secretary of Transportation.
