NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter has inked a contract with IMG Models — a week after fashionistas praised her Inauguration Day outfit.
Ella Emhoff, whose father is Harris’ husband, “communicates this moment in time,” IMG Models President Ivan Bart said in an interview with the New York Times.
Emhoff wore a purple Batsheva dress and a tweed Miu Miu coat to Harris and President Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20 — a look Bart said showcased her ability to “communicat[e] fashion.”
“It’s not really about shape, size or gender anymore,” he said. “There’s a cheekiness and a joy [Ella] exudes.”
Emhoff, who studies fine arts, with a focus on textiles, at Parsons School of Design, said she was “pretty surprised” by the IMG offer, because “when I was younger, I never saw that as being part of my timeline.”
She has “been modeling on and off for the last year with a smaller agent,” the Times noted.
“As someone who, like a lot of young girls out there, had self-confidence issues, it is intimidating and scary to go into this world that is hyper-focused on you and the body,” she said, but added that she wanted to be “part of that change” toward more diverse representation in fashion.
Poet Amanda Gorman also signed with IMG Models after reciting one of her works at the inauguration.
