NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole on Thursday said he is battling stage four lung cancer.
The longtime Kansas senator and 1996 Republican presidential nominee announced his diagnosis in a statement he posted on Twitter.

"Recently, I was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer," he wrote. "My first treatment will begin on Monday."
"While I certainly have some hurdles ahead, I also know that I join millions of Americans who face significant health challenges of their own," he added.
Dole served as a senator for Kansas from 1969 to 1996.
