NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to delay former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial until February, according to a report.

Several sources told CBS News McConnell plans to ask Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to delay the start of the trial to February. Schumer must sign off on the plan, according to the outlet.

That move “would give impeachment managers and… Trump’s defense at least a week to prepare,” the outlet reported.

McConnell previously said he believed Trump “provoked” supporters who stormed the Capitol earlier this month, but has not said whether he supports the impeachment effort.

Trump was impeached on Jan. 13.
