NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – President Donald Trump has reportedly discussed creating a new political party in recent days as his time in office comes to an end.

Trump told aides and others close to him last week that he wanted to create a “Patriot Party” to continue his influence in politics, people familiar with the talks told the Wall Street Journal.

The new party would be at odds with the Republican Party to which Trump currently belongs.

Trump has clashed with Republicans in recent days; among them was Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who said Tuesday that the mob who stormed the Capitol Building was “fed lies” and “provoked by the president and other powerful people.”

According to the report, it’s unclear how committed Trump is to creating the new party, a move that would take significant effort and face resistance from GOP officials.

The White House declined to comment to the Wall Street Journal.
