NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he'd like to run for a third term as president but "probably" won't, as he also claimed he has his "best" poll numbers ever and that Americans "love" the tariffs.

Asked by the hosts of CNBC's "Squawk Box" if he's going to run again, despite being limited to two terms by U.S. law, Trump said, "Probably not—I’d like to."

"I'd like to run," Trump went on to say. "I have the best poll numbers I've ever had. You know why? Because people love the tariffs, and they love that foreign countries aren't ripping us off."

Co-host Joe Kernen pressed Trump on the poll numbers claim, saying, "Overall poll numbers—you don’t have the best you ever had in overall poll numbers," but Trump insisted "I have the best."

Trump went on to call the polls now showing him with a near-100% approval rating among Republicans as "fake." "I have fake polls," he said.

According to the most recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll from July, Trump has an overall approval rating of 40%, similar to his overall approval of 42% in March.

The new AP-NORC polling tracker shows that Trump’s favorability rating has remained largely steady since the end of his first term, with between 33% and 43% of U.S. adults saying they viewed him favorably across more than five years.

In July, his approval rating was 78% among Republicans and 8% among Democrats, according to the AP-NORC polling tracker.
