ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York man who boasted in a Facebook video that he was in the "Capitol building smoking (marijuana) with all my people!" was arrested Wednesday in connection with the insurrection earlier this month, according to federal officials.
James Bonet of Glens Falls was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, both federal misdemeanors, according to court documents. The Albany FBI office said Bonet was arrested Wednesday morning.
The FBI was tipped off to videos showing Bonet in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 by someone who knew him through mutual friends. The tipster said some of the videos on Bonet's Facebook account were deleted, including one that shows him smoking what appears to be marijuana inside the Capitol.
In one video titled "Made it in," Bonet can be heard saying: "We're taking it back! We are taking it back, we made it in the building!" according to court papers.
Bonet, who works as a shift manager for an undisclosed employer in Saratoga Springs, openly talked about government conspiracies at work and about false claims that last year's presidential election was stolen, the documents said.
It could not immediately be determined if Bonet had a lawyer and it was not clear when he would make an initial court appearance.
