NEWTON, Conn. (1010 WINS) — The organization founded by two parents whose sons were murdered in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, reacted Wednesday to Tuesday’s mass shooting at a Texas elementary school.

"We’re reliving our worst nightmare again. Our hearts ache for those families and that community," Sandy Hook Promise said on Facebook. "And our hearts ache knowing it didn’t have to be this way – our hearts ache because we know gun violence is preventable. That’s why now, more than ever, we cannot waver in our commitment to protect more children from gun violence. We must do more."
Nineteen children and two teachers were shot and killed by an 18-year-old gunman in Tuesday's shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde.
Launched in the wake of the December 2012 shooting that killed 20 children and six teachers, Sandy Hook Promise's goal is to prevent children from gun violence.
"The most meaningful way for us to honor our loved ones, those who were murdered in Uvalde and all the precious lives taken by gun violence across the country is by doing everything we possibly can to prevent future tragedies," the post continued.
Nicole Hockley and Mark Barden, co-founders and CEOs of Sandy Hook Promise, said they know "firsthand the unspeakable pain and darkness that descended on Uvalde" as they offered words of support to the parents killed and called on "everyone else" to take action.
"Take your heartache, your fear, your anger and sadness, and channel them into action," they said. "We must take action today and every day until this epidemic of violence ends."
