SHIRLEY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – Human remains were found at a Long Island beach on Monday, Suffolk County police said as they investigate the disturbing discovery.

The remains were discovered by beachgoers at Smith Point County Park in Shirley, according to police.

A man and woman were walking on the beach shortly before 5 p.m. when they came across a human jawbone, police said.

They brought the remains to a park attendant, who notified police.

The Suffolk County medical examiner determined that the remains are human.

The medical examiner is now working to identify the person who they belonged to.
