MANHASSET, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – An alleged shoplifter was arrested after he tangled with a guard while attempting to steal sunglasses from the Macy's store in Manhasset, Nassau County police said.

The loss prevention officer allegedly saw William Paek take sunglasses from a display case, place them in his pocket and try to leave the store on Northern Boulevard without paying around 3 p.m. Saturday.

The guard confronted him, leading to a struggle between the two men in the store, police said.

The guard suffered an injury to his right leg during the scuffle before Paek threw the sunglasses on the floor and fled, according to police.

Paek was taken into custody in the parking lot and transported to a hospital for an evaluation. He faces charges of robbery, burglary, assault, criminal mischief and petit larceny.

The store guard declined further medical attention at the scene.
