The Sixers will sign center Greg Monroe, according to ESPN's Jordan Schultz. The Sixers will waive Justin Patton to add Monroe.

This will be Monroe's sixth NBA team, as he has bounced around his entire career after being the 7th overall pick in 2010 to the Detroit Pistons out of Georgetown.

Monroe averages 13.2 PPG for his career, but just 4.8 PPG in 11.1 MPG this season.

Patton, 21, was acquired by the Sixers in the Jimmy Butler and just recently completed rehabbing from foot surgery. Patton, the 16th overall pick in 2017, hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Boban Marjanović will have trouble backing up Joel Embiid against some potential postseason opponents. Monroe will be able to soak up some of those backup minutes from Embiid, who will miss his third straight games on Wednesday (load management), if needed.
