EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A small plane made an emergency landing on the Southern State Parkway in Suffolk County on Tuesday morning, police said.
The single-engine Piper Cherokee landed on the eastbound lanes of the parkway in East Farmingdale between 11:30 a.m. and noon.
The plane touched down just south of Republic Airport, near Exit 33 to Route 109.
Two people on board the plane were transported to a hospital by EMS, police said. No injuries were immediately reported on the ground.
It's not yet known why the pilot made an emergency landing.

The plane was leaking fuel on the eastbound lanes shortly after noon as police, EMS and hazard crews responded.
All lanes of the Southern State were subject to closure in the area, with only one eastbound lane available as of 12:30 p.m. Rubberneckers were also causing delays in the westbound lanes.
