WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A six-foot-long python was seized from a Long Island home a month after authorities found a 14-foot-long python dead on a road in Suffolk County.

The six-foot reticulated python was tracked down to a home in West Babylon on March 29 by state Department of Environmental Conservation officers investigating illegal snakes in Suffolk, the DEC said this week.

The suspected owner of the snake was charged and given a ticket for possessing the snake, according to officials.

The snake was transferred to a reptile center out of state.

The seizure came from tips the DEC received following the discovery of a dead 14-foot python "curled up in a ball" on a road in Medford on Feb. 14.

Officials said the snake owner in the West Babylon case didn't own the snake found in Medford but was busted thanks to a tip that followed that case.

The DEC warned it's illegal to keep snakes like the reticulated python as pets in New York and that owners must have a dangerous animal license.
