2 men crushed by conveyor belt at Long Island recycling plant

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Police are investigating after two men were crushed by a conveyor belt at a Long Island recycling plant Monday morning.

According to police, at about at 10:20 a.m., officers responded to Earth-Tech Recycling, located at 495 Wood St. in Oceanside. for reports of multiple injuries.

Both victims were extracted from under of the conveyor belt with assistance from the Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit and the Oceanside Fire Department.

The first victim, a 62-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by the Oceanside Fire Department to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The second victim, a 68-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by a Nassau County Police Helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment where he is listed as critical but stable condition.

It is unclear what led up to the incident. No other details were released by police.
