NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two people were shot blocks apart in Westchester on Wednesday, near the vigil honoring the late rapper DMX, according to a report from News 12.

The shootings happened about an hour after the vigil honoring the rapper whose real name was Earl Simmons ended.

One victim ended up seeking refuge in the back seat of the outlet's news vehicle, the report added.

The outlet reported that the victim jumped into the back seat of the News 12 vehicle near Fourth Street Park in Mount Vernon, where a reporter and photographer who had covered the event were.

The second shooting occurred while dozens of people were still inside the park, causing them to run for safety.

No further information regrading the second shooting was provided.

There is no word if the shootings were connected, or if the victims had attended the vigil.

DMX died Friday after spending a week at White Plains Hospital due to a heart attack triggered by a drug overdose.
