JERICHO, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Nassau County officials are investigating after three people were injured when a tractor trailer struck a vehicle at a Long Island Expressway construction zone early Tuesday.

According to police, at about 1:25 a.m., a 2016 Volvo tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway when it struck a 2005 Isuzu in the vicinity of Exit 40E in Jericho.

The 55-year-old driver of the Isuzu was establishing a construction zone at the time of the accident. The collision damaged the passenger side of the Volvo and caused a passenger, 35, to become trapped, officials said.

Nassau County Police Department's Emergency Services Unit responded and extracted the woman from the vehicle.

The driver of the Isuzu suffered neck pain. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The passenger of the Volvo suffered a minor leg injury. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

While extracting the passenger, an officer suffered a contusion to his head and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
