HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – An alleged Bloods gang member was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison on Wednesday for a shooting at a Long Island apartment building in 2023, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.

Corey Crisp, 44, was convicted in January of attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment.

According to the charges, on Jan. 6, 2023, Crisp was at an apartment building located at 600 Fulton Ave. in Hempstead, where his girlfriend lived.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., Crisp observed the victim and pulled out a small knife from his sweatshirt and extended the blade, officials said.

The victim ran and Crisp began chasing after him. As they crossed the lobby of the building, Crisp and the victim both pulled out semi-automatic handguns and Crisp fired down a crowded hallway, prosecutors said.

The bullet struck a wall, continued past the victim and more than half a dozen civilians, including a baby in a stroller, and struck another wall at the far end of the hallway.

Crisp then fled the scene.

Crisp was arrested in Hempstead on Jan. 27, 2023.

"Corey Crisp endangered multiple residents of a Hempstead apartment building, including a baby in a stroller, when he chased down a man and traded gunfire with him in a hallway" DA Donnelly said. "This defendant has a lengthy violent criminal past dating back decades. He placed innocent people in harm’s way with total disregard. Wednesday’s sentence will make our communities safer."
