NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — CNN news anchor Chris Cuomo advised his brother, Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and senior members of his staff on how to handle the multiple allegations of sexual harassment against him, according to a Washington Post report, later confirmed by the cable network.
The newspaper reported that Chris Cuomo participated in strategy conference calls with his older brother and senior members of the governor's staff earlier this year.
According to the report, the anchor encouraged the governor to take a "defiant position and not to resign from the governor's office."
The Post reports that at some point during the call, Chris Cuomo also cited "cancel culture" as a reason for the governor to hold firm when facing the mounting allegations.
CNN later confirmed the report.
"Chris has not been involved in CNN's extensive coverage of the allegations against Governor Cuomo – on air or behind the scenes. In part because, as he has said on his show, he could never be objective. But also because he often serves as a sounding board for his brother," a CNN spokesperson to the Post.
The network noted that it was "inappropriate" for Chris Cuomo to engage in the conversations with the governor and his staff and that the anchor "acknowledges" the wrongdoing.
"He will not participate in such conversations going forward," CNN told the Post.
The network confirmed that Chris Cuomo will not be facing any disciplinary actions for taking part in the calls.
