Dobbs Ferry police officer hospitalized after unprovoked attack; suspect in custody

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An on-duty Dobbs Ferry Village police officer was hospitalized following a stabbing in an unprovoked attack Thursday afternoon.

The attack happened around 2 p.m. as the officer was assisting Con Edison crews handle traffic in the vicinity of 200 Beacon Hill Drive.


He was seriously injured and was taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.

The attacker ran up behind the officer before he began to repeatedly stab and slash the victim in the head with an unknown weapon, according to a report from WABC-TV.

The victim lost a lot of blood but is expected to survive, the outlet sadeid.

"The police department has a suspect in custody and there is no known danger to the public at this time," Dobbs Ferry Police wrote on Facebook.

"There will be additional police presence and road closures in the area while the police department continues its investigation into the attack."

An investigation remains ongoing.
