FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Suffolk County detectives arrested a man after he fatally struck a man with his vehicle and fled the scene on Tuesday, authorities said.
At approximately 3:15 p.m. a 44-year-old man was walking southbound on the northbound sidewalk of State Route 110, just south of Route 109, when a 2017 Toyota Tacoma traveling northbound veered off the road and struck him, officials said.
The Tacoma fled the scene northbound.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending notification, was transported via ambulance to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Toyota was identified as 22-year-old Hugo Cuadra.
Just before 4 p.m., he was located at his home, located on Ronek Drive in North Amityville and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
He was held overnight at the Third Precinct before he was set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 9.
