
NORTH BABLYON, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A driver struck and killed a 2-year-old child at a parking lot on Long Island over the weekend, state police said Monday.
The toddler was struck by an Acura in the north parking lot of Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon just before 2:45 p.m. Sunday, according to police.
The driver immediately called 911 and remained at the scene, police said, adding the driver cooperated fully with investigators.
The circumstances surrounding the incident weren’t immediately known, but police said they investigated and “there is no criminality involved in this tragic event.”
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that the child succumbed to their injuries,” state police said in a statement.
“Out of respect for the family and due to the sensitive nature of the incident, as well as the age of the victim, no further details will be released at this time,” the statement continued.
