NORTH AMITYVILLE (WCBS 880) -- Suffolk County detectives launched an investigation after a teen girl was injured during a shooting on Long Island Wednesday night, officials said.
According to police, at approximately 8:35 p.m., two groups of females were engaged in a verbal dispute on Cahill Street in North Amityville when one of them fired a shot from a handgun, striking the 16-year-old girl in the leg.
Everyone involved in the dispute, except the victim, fled the scene before police arrived.
The teen was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
