UNIONDALE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Someone made a bomb threat to a Long Island high school on Tuesday morning, prompting a response from Homeland Security, police said after giving the all-clear.
A message was sent by an anonymous person through the chat message system of 988 Lifeline, a suicide and crisis hotline, at around 7 a.m. about bombs that had been placed around the Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene and held students and faculty outside of the school before the beginning of classes and a search was conducted.
The school was cleared and no bombs were found. The day went on as usual as the school reopened to students and faculty.
Homeland Security responded to the scene, police said.
An investigation is ongoing.
The incident comes after three students were arrested last week on Long Island for school-related crimes, and a fourth is under investigation.
One case involved a 15-year-old boy from Lindenhurst who was arrested after allegedly threatening to carry out a shooting at Brennan High School in West Babylon. The threat was made during an online chat involving students from the school, though it did not occur during school hours.
He was charged with making a threat of mass harm, a misdemeanor.
