MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- Authorities on Long Island arrested a homeless man for assaulting multiple officers during an arrest earlier this week.
According to detectives, on Monday, September 26, a 28-year-old woman was at a laundry mat in Massapequa when she was punched by an unknown man who fled the scene prior to police arrival.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following an investigation, officials identified the attacker as 38-year-old James Garner.
On September 27, at 5:20 PM, detectives located Garner, who is homeless, at H. Garrick William Park in Massapequa.
A struggle ensued where two detectives and a police officer sustained injuries during the course of the arrest due to Garner being violent and combative while resisting arrest, authorities said.
After a brief struggle, police were eventually able to secure Garner who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The two detectives and the officer were also all transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Garner was charged with four counts of assault, and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned on Wednesday, September 28, at First District Court in Hempstead.
