NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A former aide for Attorney General Letitia James’ office filed a lawsuit Thursday that alleges James was aware of sexual harassment and assault allegations against her chief of staff and covered up the accusations ahead of her election in November, putting staff at risk.
Sofia Quintanar, 33, accused James’ former chief of staff Ibrahim Khan of groping and kissing her and another employee without their consent a month prior to James’ re-election on Nov. 8.
Quintanar sued James, her campaign, the Office of the Attorney General and Khan himself on Thursday.
“We took the allegations brought to our office seriously and engaged in decisive, prompt, and appropriate action,” a spokesperson for the AG’s office told 1010 WINS.
Khan resigned on Nov. 22 during an investigation into the charges, though James’ office did not announce his resignation until her office concluded the allegations were credible on Dec. 2.
The lawsuit faults James for allowing Khan to resign with pay through the end of the year, maintaining the appearance that Khan was leaving his post for mundane reasons.
Quintanar is seeking damages for loss of income, embarrassment and pain suffered because of the alleged incident.
