NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A bicyclist died on Monday after being injured in a car crash by a man driving under the influence of drugs, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The victim, Eryk McPherson, was riding his bike westbound across Joshuas Path at Vanderbilt Avenue in Central Islip around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday when he was struck by a 2012 Honda sedan traveling southbound.
McPherson, 19, was taken to South Shore University Hospital and later died on Monday due to his injuries.
The driver of the Honda, David Alfaro, 21, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, according to police.
An investigation is ongoing.
