SELDEN, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Suffolk County police arrested a 15-year-old boy Monday night after he stabbed his mother and fatally stabbed his grandmother in their Long Island home.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., after being stabbed by her son, Vanessa Chendemi, 36, ran out of her residence, located at 802 Old Town Rd. in Selden, when a passing motorist stopped to offer assistance, officials said. Chendemi got into the vehicle where she called 911 to report the incident.

Upon arrival, officers found Concetta Chendemi, 56, inside the residence with stab wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Vanessa Chendemi was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

The 15-year-old boy fled the scene after the stabbing but was arrested at Dare Road and Buckskin Lane in Selden at 11:22 p.m. by officers canvassing the area.

Detectives charged the boy, whose name is being withheld due to his age, with murder and attempted murder.

It is unclear what led to the stabbings.

The teen is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
