NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island cemetery employee was killed when a grave he was leveling out collapsed on him Thursday morning, authorities said.
Rodwin Allicock, 42, of Coram, was working at the bottom of a grave at Washington Memorial Park on Canal Road in Mount Sinai around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday when the grave collapsed on him, Suffolk County police said.
Allicock’s coworkers tried to dig him out, but weren’t able to, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene soon after, according to police.
Police said the grave was more than seven feet deep.
1010 WINS has reached out to the cemetery for comment on Allicock’s death. An investigation is ongoing.
