NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island man was arrested after he tried to lure a 7-year-old girl into his car at a bus stop on Thursday, authorities said.
The girl, several other children and one of the children’s mothers were standing at a bus stop at East 8th Street and Lenox Road in Huntington Station around 8:50 a.m. on Thursday when Erasmo Ortega, 48, drove by and tried to convince the girl to get into his Toyota Camry, Suffolk County police said Friday.
When the girl refused, Ortega drove away, the department said. The mother who was with the children at the bus stop called 911 after the incident, police said.
Two police officers tried to pull Ortega over not long after, but he refused to stop, nearly hitting them as he drove off, according to police.
He was arrested at his home around 12:20 p.m. on Thursday, police said.
Ortega faces charges including endangering the welfare of a child, reckless driving and reckless endangerment, the department said. His attorney information wasn’t immediately available Friday.
