NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Long Island man was arrested after he allegedly fought with an officer who pulled him over for having an "unreadable" license plate, police said Thursday.
The 39-year-old Amityville man was driving east on Sunrise Highway, near Bellmore Avenue, around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday when the officer pulled him over for having the altered plate, Nassau County police said.
During the traffic stop, the man became "uncooperative and combative," resulting in a struggle, police said.
He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, according to police.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries to his hands, arms and knees, police said.
