NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Long Island man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly abusing his dog last month, the Suffolk Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals announced Wednesday.

Bradley Festgerwick, 33, was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty after investigators found evidence that he abused his dog, Polly, a small Maltese mix, according to Roy Gross, chief of the Suffolk SPCA.

The alleged incident happened in late January inside Festgerwick's Bay Shore home. According to the investigation, Festgerwick allegedly picked up Polly and slammed her to the ground in his bedroom. Responding officers found Polly with a pronounced limp and difficulty walking. The dog was immediately taken for medical treatment.

During the investigation, authorities also discovered a violation of a court order of protection related to a domestic violence case.

Festgerwick was arrested on Feb. 12 and charged with animal cruelty. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 24.

The Suffolk County SPCA urges anyone who suspects animal cruelty or neglect to report it by calling (631) 382-7722.
