NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) –A Long Island man was charged on Friday after allegedly trapping a black cat in Islip last week, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.
Michael Vitucci Jr., 67, allegedly trapped a male black cat from near his trailer park home on Main Street either on or around Feb. 9, SPCA detectives said.
Vitucci Jr. allegedly took the cat and later released it at a ShopRite supermarket at 1905 Sunrise Highway in Bayshore.
On Feb. 16, SPCA detectives charged Vitucci Jr. with abandonment.
He will appear in court on March 7.
Detectives are also searching for another black cat that was reported missing from 150 Main St. in Islip, near the area from where the first cat was taken, possibly in connection with this case, the SPCA said.
The missing cat, Clyde, is still being sought by its owner, officials reported.
