NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Long Island man was sentenced to prison for a hit-and-run incident in 2022 that left a 30-year-old father dead, prosecutors said.
Corey Henson, 33, pleaded guilty on Nov. 15, 2023, to manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death and driving while intoxicated.
On July 11, 2022, the victim, 30-year-old Dodanim Emanuel Chavez was moving his stuff to a new home with the help of two friends, according to court records.
Chavez was standing along the driver's side of his friend's pick-up truck on Long Beach Road in Island Park when Henson struck him with his van.

Henson did not stop and fled the scene.
Chavez was taken to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital with severe head trauma where he was later pronounced deceased, according to prosecutors.
After the incident, Henson crashed his van into a guardrail on South Main Street in Freeport, according to prosecutors. His van was taken to a local tow yard.
The next day, a Freeport police officer connected the two incidents and called the Nassau County Police Department.
Henson was arrested on July 13, 2022, when he came to pick up his van from the tow yard.
An investigation revealed that Henson was drunk while he struck Chevaz.
"Dodanim Emanuel Chavez was a devoted husband and father, who was simply moving furniture to a new home with the help of some friends when he was struck and killed by an intoxicated Corey Henson," Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly said. Through the combined efforts of the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad, the Freeport Police Department, and my prosecutors, we were able to find this defendant, retrace his movements, and hold him accountable for Mr. Chavez's senseless and tragic death. Hit-and-run investigations are notoriously difficult to prosecute."
Henson was sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
