
OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Authorities are investigating after a 74-year-old woman was conned out of $26,000 in an arrest scam on Long Island Thursday afternoon.
According to detectives, at 12:45 p.m., a in Oceanside received a phone call from an unknown man claiming her son had been arrested.
The man told the victim she would have to provide money for her son’s release.
The victim was told to retrieve $26,000 and a courier would be sent to her residence to pick it up.
A short time later, two unknown males arrived at the victim’s residence, took the money and left the scene.
The victim later realized it was a scam and contacted police.
An investigation is ongoing.
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
