HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A woman was charged for abandoning her cats that were found trapped in a closet days after she had vacated her apartment on Long Island.
Detectives charged Chelcea Newman, 32, of Holtsville with multiple misdemeanor animal abandonment charges for allegedly abandoning her two cats by leaving them in a closet after she had vacated an apartment and removing all furniture and contents, Chief of the Suffolk SPCA Roy Gross said.
After abandoning the apartment, Newman never contacted apartment officials about retrieving the cats, and the cats were found alive in a closet with feces all over the floor days later by apartment maintenance staff after they were called by PSEG about a power interruption in the apartment.
Newman was arrested on Oct. 24, and released and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on Nov. 13.
