NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Detectives from the Suffolk County SPCA charged a Ronkonkoma woman with multiple animal cruelty charges alleging that she neglected dogs, cats and a bird in her care.
Susan Lombardi, 53, was charged with thirty Agriculture and Markets Law misdemeanors, including animal cruelty and neglect of an impounded animal.
Detectives from the Suffolk County SPCA responded to investigate claims of poor conditions at Lombardi's home. Upon arrival, detectives found uninhabitable conditions for over forty dogs, eight cats, and a bird.

Additionally, garbage, feces, urine, and debris were scattered around inside the residence. The overwhelming odor of urine, ammonia, rot, putrid smells, and mildew made it difficult for detectives to breathe inside, according to Roy Gross, chief of the Suffolk SPCA.
Flies and fly excrement were observed on walls and ceilings throughout the residence. Dogs with matted fur were found in cages with grime, feces, and empty water bowls, officials said.

On Saturday Feb 15, Lombardi surrendered to SPCA detectives at the Suffolk County Police Department’s Fifth Precinct.
Lombardi is due in court on March 7.
